Seven years ago, I bought a $5 pink crackle lamp from Kmart. It served me well through my first post-college single-lady apartment. However, it has now made it into my not-so-single-lady house and rests on a console table for Dave. I didn’t want to chuck it and buy a new lamp, but I also didn’t think pink crackle suited Dave, because sometimes men don’t wear pink.
I had a bunch of extra black and white chalk paint lying around, plus some thick twine from a gift bag (I love saving ribbons and gift packaging to repurpose!), so I took a crack at mixing the colors into a dark gray and painting the base of the lamp.
I’m so pleased with the results! Linking the paint colors I used below (from two different brands! There are no rules here). I waited about 4ish hours between the two coats I painted on and then another 24 hours before wrapping the twine onto it.

This was so easy that I would probably trust my dog to do it (not really, but I’m prone to hyperbole). I hope this inspires you to look at your old, maybe-dated, maybe too-pink lamps in a new light (because the world doesn’t need another table lamp in it’s landfills).
