13 going on 30 (ie. I’m 30 today and I was 29 yesterday). Taking a quick break from home decor to introduce myself and why I started the ipsee. I’m the daughter of immigrants, and I’ve always had a love of beautiful things. These two facts didn’t always mesh well, not because immigrants don’t love beautiful things, but because beautiful things tend to cost money and immigrants don’t tend to have a lot of it.
But, they say necessity is the mother of invention, and watching my mother work the clearance racks at JCPenney was a work of art in and of itself. It was through her ingenuity that I learned that sometimes it is less about what you have, and more about what you do with what you have.
the ipsee is an homage to my mother’s love of affordable living, be it in home decor (shoutout to all that weird fake fruit she bought in the 90s, those plastic grapes did add a little…something), clothing, her meals that were truly a testament to creating something out of nothing, and to my earliest roots in Ypsilanti, Michigan (aka, what locals call “ipsee”). My hope is you find something that adds a little more attainable beauty to your life here, or at the very least, a little weird fake fruit.
xoxo,
Anna

PS. Shoutout to my $45 sweater from Amazon. It is thick and juicy (ok, maybe not juicy, but it is very thick and high quality!) and you can find it here so you can snag it for your bad self.
